Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 is a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president , and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as the United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the second African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her sharp examination of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions.
